The Panhandle Beach Hikes: Navarre Area

Starting at the tip where Florida borders Alabama to Navarre Beach, this area of the panhandle features some of the most beautiful, diverse, natural, soft white powdery sand beach walks in the state.

3 MILE HIKE ON WEST END
1 MILE HIKE ON EAST SIDE OF PIER

  • Location: Navarre Beach
  • Sand Texture and Color: Navarre sand is soft and sugar-white, composed of fine quartz grains. It’s cool underfoot, even on hot days.
  • Walking Experience: Perfect for barefoot walks; the sand feels powdery with a smooth texture. Near the waterline, it’s slightly firmer, ideal for long strolls.
  • Unique Features: The pristine sands contrast beautifully with the turquoise waters of the Gulf, creating a picturesque beachscape.

  • My Miles Walked: ~6 miles (from the state line east along the beach to a public access point)
  • My Starting Point: Florida-Alabama border on Perdido Key
  • Weather on My Hike: Sunny skies, high 70s, slight breeze — the kind of day that makes you want to write poetry or just lie down and never leave
  • My Mood: Excited, curious, slightly nervous about what 1,350 miles of coastline might do to my feet

Walk in the Sand Navarre Beach

If you love the soft white sands of panhandle, the beaches in Navarre are an amazing place to go for a beach hike. Navarre physically sits between two beautiful sections of the Gulf Islands National Seashore and features the same beautiful sand and shoreline!

From the Pier, walking west extends 3 miles to the end of Navarre Beach along the homes & hotel stretch of the beach. This section of the beachfront narrows as you go further west, but it is a nice shoreline to walk and sit back and enjoy the beachfront.

Walking east from the pier is a gorgeous hike into the natural preserved shoreline. You can walk for miles here, but I’d recommend using a walking tracker to measure your distance because there is no other way back then to walk.
