Destin’s HarborWalk is one of my favorite places along the Emerald Coast because it offers such a unique blend of bustling energy, beautiful views, and endless activities. Every time I visit, I feel like I’m stepping into the heart of Destin’s culture, where locals and tourists mix for a true coastal experience. There’s always something going on, whether it’s live music, sunset boat tours, or simply watching the fishermen come in with their fresh catches. And just across the way is Norriego Point, a beautiful hidden gem that offers a bit of peace and quiet compared to the lively HarborWalk.

The HarborWalk Experience

When you first arrive at HarborWalk Village, it’s easy to get caught up in the energy. The waterfront is lined with restaurants, shops, and activity booths where you can sign up for everything from parasailing to dolphin cruises. The backdrop of Destin Harbor, filled with boats of all sizes, adds to the excitement, especially as the day fades into a picturesque sunset.

There’s often live music, and the views from the upper deck are unbeatable—looking out over the harbor with the boats bobbing below feels quintessentially Destin. It’s a perfect spot for dining and then enjoying a stroll afterwards along the boardwalk, soaking in the festive atmosphere. Street performers, souvenir shops, and candy stores give it that vacation-town vibe, and you’ll often hear a mix of live bands or karaoke coming from the various bars and restaurants.

Adventures from the Harbor

One of the best parts about HarborWalk is that it’s the launching point for so many boating adventures. Dolphin cruises and sunset sails depart from here offering a magical adventure on the water. For fishing enthusiasts, Destin dons the name “Fishing Capital of the World” for a good reason! The waters off Destin are famous for sport fishing, and you can hop on a deep-sea fishing charter or other fishing adventures with lots of options and captains to choose from. If you’re not going out yourself, it’s fun to see the boats come back in with their impressive catches. The Destin Fishing Rodeo in October is especially exciting, with locals and visitors alike cheering as anglers weigh in their record catches.

Looking for higher speeds and more excitement on the water? One of my favorite things to do here is to rent a jet ski from HarborWalk to explore the harbor and the surrounding waters. Zipping across the crystal-clear Gulf waters with the breeze in my face is a feeling I never get tired of. Plus, you get incredible views of Norriego Point and Crab Island as you cruise around.

In this part of Destin, a walk on the bridge is spectacular! Take the walkway up to the center of the bridge where you get an overview of Norriego, Harborwalk and the beautiful waterway.

Norriego Point: A Quiet Escape

Just across from the busy HarborWalk is Norriego Point, which is my favorite spot in the area, particularly at sunset. It is a peaceful escape that feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle. This peninsula, which sits at the end of Holiday Isle, offers stunning views of Destin Harbor, the East Pass, and the Gulf of Mexico. You can either paddle over by kayak or take a boat shuttle from the HarborWalk area. If you drive to it, note that the parking is extremely limited and is availble on a paid parking app.

The sandy beaches of Norriego Point are spectacular and the calm waters and designated areas make it ideal for swimming, paddleboarding, or just lounging on the shore. It’s a great spot for families with kids. Walking around the whole point is just under a mile, but it is not a place where I’d recommend a brisk walk because there is too much to soak in! Looking across at Harborwalk, watching boats coming and going, walking around the tip to the other side where the rock jetties protect the point and offer a nice spot to sit and enjoy the view, and watching the birds frolic along the rocks and shoreline, is simply worth going slow for!

Sunsets

The sunsets from Norriego Point are simply breathtaking. Sitting on the sand or rocks, watching the sun set over the harbor painting the sky with pinks, purples and orange, with the twinkling lights of HarborWalk in the distance, is one of those perfect Destin moments (also extremely popular instagram spot!) It’s quieter here than the HarborWalk, making it a more reflective, peaceful experience.

HarborWalk Festivals and Events

One of the things I love most about HarborWalk is the year-round festivals and events. The Destin Seafood Festival is a must if you’re in town during the fall, with tons of food vendors serving up the freshest seafood you can imagine. There are craft stalls, live music stages, and fireworks, creating a lively festival atmosphere that takes over the whole area. During the holidays, the Destin Boat Parade is also a highlight. Boats of all sizes, decked out in twinkling Christmas lights, sail through the harbor, and it’s such a festive way to kick off the season.

Even on non-festival days, you’ll find activities happening at HarborWalk. Fireworks are a regular occurrence during the summer where you can enjoy evenings just sitting on the boardwalk and watching the colorful explosions light up the sky over the harbor. There’s always something going on, which makes every visit feel fresh and exciting.

Destin HarborWalk and Norriego Point offer two sides of Destin that balance each other perfectly. HarborWalk is full of life, energy, and excitement, with countless opportunities for dining, adventure, shopping and entertainment. Meanwhile, Norriego Point is a quiet oasis where you can escape and enjoy the natural beauty of the coast. Together, they create a well-rounded Destin experience.
