Walk at the East end of Pensacola Beach at Santa Rosa area of Gulf Islands National Seashore

3 mile hike into the seashore

Like many other areas during our visit, the road was also closed due to Gulf Islands National Seashore being closed from Hurricane Sally damage.

We parked at the beach access point at the Portofino Resort and walked 3 miles east into the park.

This area is yet again, another gorgeous, wide sandy beachfront area with gorgeous waters on one side and sandy dunes on the other.

Gulls were common along these clean and natural white sand dune beaches as well as other shore birds.

I am still practicing my wildlife bird photography skills using my Galaxy S20. The Blue Heron is my favorite bird and it has been awesome seeing so many in the Pensacola Beach areas.

Shelling along the shores, Cortney found lots of beautiful shells. Olives and conchs were common, while the moonshell was a rare find.

Had to take this selfie and share the beauty of this moment on this secluded area of the Gulf Islands National Seashore.

The natural beauty of this National Seashore with the pure white sand dunes on both sides of the road that runs along this barrier island, is something you won’t find in many places on this planet.

Spending the afternoon walking a few miles down the coastline helped me to find peace, joy and freedom as I watched the shorebirds hanging out along the way, watched Cortney as she walked along the shore finding shells, and soaked in the beauty and the sunshine that surrounded me.

My Daily Walk in the Sand Inspiration & Thoughts

Parking at the east end of Pensacola Beach and walking into the Gulf Islands National Seashore makes you realize the amount of space that exists and can be found even in populated areas.

If you have never been to one of the areas of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, I’d highly recommend it. These natural beachfront areas are breathtaking. As a bird lover whose favorite bird is the Blue Heron, this was paradise for me. These beautiful birds, wide open beachfront with soft sugar white sand and the warm waters of the Gulf, it is a perfect way to spend the day walking in the sand.
