West End of Pensacola Beach Walk at the Fort Pickens entrance area
2 mile hike into the park
On the western end of Pensacola Beach is a beautiful beach that is the start of Fort Pickens, It was unfortunately closed so we were not able to get in to see the historic fort. We did park at the entrance access point and walk a couple miles into the park on the beach.
The walkway from the restrooms was damaged from Hurricane Sally and had not yet been repaired. Across the street on the sound side is a playground and picnic areas. Along the beach, it is not uncommon to see surf fishers.
With the beautiful dunes on the north side, wide open beachfront and emerald green and blue waters on the south, the walk is incredible.
This day was a day to share, I had to get a selfie! The white sand, natural dunes, blue sky, perfect 70 degrees, and calm waters. No place I’d rather be.
We enjoyed a nice 2 mile walk west into the park. The fort was too far to walk to so hopefully we can get to it next time.
My Daily Walk in the Sand Inspiration & Thoughts
This day, while Cortney was shelling along the water’s edge, I sat back close to the dunes on this very wide beachfront, and did some sand therapy by just playing in the sand.
It is one of the most relaxing things to do. When you run your fingers through the sand, make shapes in the sand, just wiggle your toes in the sand, it can ease pain both in the body and in the mind.
Everyday should be Sand Therapy Day. Join me on the beach and let’s enjoy some sand therapy!
