When Life Doesn’t Go According to the Forecast
This weekend at the beach, the skies were gray, and the wind and rain came in sideways.
The waves were angry. The red flags flapped loud warnings.
And I couldn’t stop thinking about the people who had planned this trip for months.
Dreaming of sunshine, ocean dips, and beach walks at in the golden sun.
Instead, they arrived to a storm.
It happens more often than we like to admit.
You plan, you hope, you count the days… and then the weather has its own ideas.
The same sea that’s calm and shimmering one day can turn wild and unwelcoming the next.
Red tide shows up.
Rain rolls in.
A hurricane shifts course.
And you’re reminded — you’re never really in control.
Storms can’t be predicted with perfect timing.
Waves don’t answer to anyone.
And nature never promises ease.
Just like life.
We make plans. We hold expectations.
We hope for peace, connection, joy.
But sometimes, we show up, and the storm does too.
It doesn’t mean we were wrong to hope.
It just means life is real, not curated.
And beauty is most often found in the way we adapt.
Maybe we put the chairs away and watch the waves from the window.
Maybe we light a candle, pour the wine, and let the storm rage while we stay still.
We can’t always have the trip we imagined.
But sometimes, we get the one we needed.
The one that reminds us to slow down.
To release control.
To find peace even when the skies are heavy.
Storms pass.
The tide shifts.
And somehow, we keep walking through it.
“When the trip turns stormy, sometimes it’s not about the beach — it’s about who you become in the storm.” – Patti Jewel
